SUDAN
Operation Nehemiah, William Levi
Focus: children and families in Southern Sudan
• Resettlement of refugees
• Providing food, clothing and medicine
• Creating agricultural development, vocational training and reconstruction programs
• Personal evangelism and replanting churches
William Levi was lucky to have escaped Sudan as a young man. Yet he goes back frequently, in the spirit of Christ and now with the help of the International Children’s Fund.
When contemporary Christians think of religious persecution, Sudan looms large in their memory. Bitter civil war has raged for decades between the Moslem north of the country and the largely Christian southern region, where William grew up. The result has been forced Islamization, along with millions of deaths or displacements.
Fortunately, the Lord also has true soldiers like William Levi. Persecuted in Sudan by jihad forces, he escaped to the safety of the USA where he got his education before devoting his life to assisting refugees to return to their homeland and rebuild their lives. His special concern is for the orphans in refugee camps in nearby Uganda, many too weak to fight for their share of scarce food and water. Help Us >
Help, and hope
ICF began to work with Operation Nehemiah during 2007. Our first assistance was the supply of a full container of medicine and medical supplies — sufficient to treat more than 200,000 people.
The shipment of aid is just the first step, the receipt, customs clearance, local transportation and orderly distribution represent tremendous challenges in the process of getting the aid to those who desperately need it. William Levi has operated in Sudan for many years and knows how to perform these critical tasks.
Thanks to his expertise, the medicine was received and was distributed to hospitals and clinics throughout Southern Sudan. The medicine will treat illnesses ranging from malaria to AIDS. Thousands of lives will be saved thanks to the generous contributions of our supporters and the hard work of people like William Levi and his team at Operation Nehemiah.
What About the One's Left Waiting?
If Pastor Levi could speak with you in person, he’d tell you about the grateful faces of the children who have been helped. He’d also speak of his concern over many who are still waiting. Join us in easing the suffering of children in Sudan, Uganda and across Africa. Help now with a tax-deductible donation to the International Children’s Fund.
